John Nicholas McDonald
Professor Emeritus, School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences
John Nicholas McDonald, 79, passed away on October 19, 2021. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from King's College, and later a Doctorate in Mathematics from Rutgers University. He was a mathematics professor at ASU for over 30 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus, School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.
John wrote an advanced math text book and published numerous research papers. Even after retirement, he continued to teach high school students taking mathematics classes at ASU through the Joaquin Bustos Math-Science Honors program.
John volunteered at Andre House, preparing and serving meals to those in need. He gave generously to numerous charities including Doctors without Borders, Human Rights Campaign, Save the Children, and St. Vincent de Paul. He marched for immigrant rights, civil rights, and peace.
John leaves behind his wife, Patricia, two daughters, three grandchildren, two sisters, a brother and two step-daughters. In death, John will join his brother and parents.
One of John’s daughters, Suzanne Kennedy, is Associate Director, Safety in the Built Environment, Environmental Health and Safety, at ASU.
A funeral service will be held on November 23, 2021, at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 E. Libra Dr., Tempe, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Andre House of Arizona. (Source: Arizona Republic)
