November 12, 2012 - Veterans Day Golf Tournament

After a year’s hiatus, ASURA held its 6th annual Veteran’s Day Golf Tournament on November 12, 2012, at ASU’s Karsten Golf Course. Fifty-nine golfers turned out bright and early on a beautiful Arizona fall day for a round of golf and a hearty BBQ lunch, concluding with an awards ceremony emceed by Gary Krahen-buhl. ASURA again partnered with Bobby Winkles in holding the event to raise money to support the Bobby and Ellie Winkles Scholarship Endowment and several of ASURA’s special projects, this year focusing on the (.

ASURA Scholarship and the Video History Project. Although planning for the tournament started a little late this year, we want to thank Sun Devil Campus Stores, Arizona State Credit Union, Sundt Construction, and TIAA-CREF for their generous spon-sorships at the last minute. Thanks also go to GolfSmith, the ASU Sign Shop (Kelli Nemec), and Fernando Morales for their additional support and to Jim Odenkirk for putting together the tournament day raffle that proved to be very popular and profitable. Special mention is due to Golf Manager Daryl Crawford and his staff at Karsten Golf Course for ensuring that the day came off without a hitch. And, of course, the tournament simply would not have happened without the support of the ASURA Office Volun-teers who handled the money and the pre-registrations, with a special shout out to Linda Van Scoy, Carol Berg, and Jack Sarrett who showed up on tournament day before sunrise to staff the registration and check-in desk, assemble the goody bags, and manage the prizes and anything else that needed managing.
