Ron R. Fanning
Professor, English and Journalism

Ron R. Fanning, 72, passed away on October 1, 2018. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Arts in English from NAU and ASU. He became a Professor at Mesa Community College, ASU and the Ohio State University. His career lasted approximately 40 years during which he taught over 1,000 classes in English composition, modern fiction, western literature, journalism, creative writing and numerous English 101 and 102 classes. Ron was an exceptional photographer, painter, and writer; winning numerous accolades for his artwork, photography, paintings and screenwriting. His paintings were very large animal and nature scenes reflecting his view of man and nature. Together with his friend Tony Motzenbacker, he won second prize at the 2014 Austin Film Festival for Best Original Screenplay, "Nuclear Sirloin". Ron was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother. He is survived by a daughter, two brothers, three sisters, a cousin and many nieces and nephews. Ron's family will be having a private Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 3rd at the home of his nephew. A public Memorial Service/Celebration of Ron's Life will be held on Sunday, November 4 from 3-5:00 PM at the Meadows Arizona Clubhouse located at 2401 West Southern Avenue, Tempe, Arizona 85282.
